Mission Graduation Remarks - June 15, 2006
As a board member in 2006 one of the highlights of my term was the opportunity to receive the graduating high school seniors from Mission San Jose High School. Here is the text of my remarks.

I am honored to share in your celebration today.

Life gives you great challenges and great opportunities. A year ago if you asked me if I’d be hear accepting the Mission High School 2006 graduating class, I would have dismissed it as an impossibility. Yet here I am.

When I was a high school student I started collecting quotes and I’d like to share one of my favorites.

Abraham Lincoln once advised:
“Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed, is more important than any other thing.”

This class exemplifies that resolution. Through all your hard work you have created opportunities for yourself and accomplished so much. Never lose your focus nor your resolution.

On behalf of the Board of Education it gives me great pleasure to accept the graduating class of 2006!
